This book has everything you could ask for: action, lots of humor, compelling characters, and a plot that draws you in, digs in its claws, and will not let go.

Purchased for the daughter but ended up reading it myself after she enjoyed it so much.
A perfect example of the young-adult genre.

Holy moly. This is a great book!!!
The creatures, the characters, the different races of people, the different threads of the story all blended together seamlessly!

BIO

Tim Cove has done a bunch of stuff. Highlights have included: working as a teacher, balloon animal modeller, tennis coach, actor, barman, shoe salesman, bakery owner and guy that gets paid to sit in the waiting room of a laser eye clinic to make it look busier and more reputable.
He spent a good many years traveling the world like some kind of free-spirited, beardless Gandalf, but has now settled down to fulfil sacred fatherly obligations such as cleaning up Lego and ruthlessly demolishing his children at Mario Kart.
Through it all, his true love and passion has remained books, especially books with magic and wizards and awesome fantastical creatures. Although he’s also partial to books with spaceships and robots and aliens. Oh, and he loves thrilling books full of mystery and twists and … you know what? It’s probably best not to get him started on books, he’ll go on and on all day and seriously who has the time for that?
When he isn’t writing, Tim enjoys hanging out with his little family, washing dishes, borrowing far more books from the library than he can possibly read and telling bedtime stories until way after bedtime.
His body lives in Melbourne, Australia. His mind splits its time between Melbourne and a few other universes where there are fewer dishes to wash and more dragons.
